It’s called stubborn fat for a reason – it doesn’t matter how much effort and energy you put into eating healthy and exercising, it doesn’t go away. The final result includes lots of pain with little gain! The truth is, it’s virtually impossible to lose that muffin top and those love handles through eating and exercising alone which means you’re either forced to just live with them or think surgery. We don’t think either of those options are cool, and that is exactly where CoolSculpting comes in.
Here’s the CoolSculpting Skinny:
Developed by Harvard scientists, our unique, patented, clinically proven procedure involves freezing fat cells without damage to your skin. There’s no knife. No suction hoses. No needles. No lasers, even. After your treatment, you get on with your busy day.
Typically, you’ll see a noticeable reduction of fat in the treated area after one visit. You can lose even more with additional appointments, if you and your doctor deem necessary. What does that mean? Simply put, your clothes fit better. You look better. The fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body over the following few months, leaving you feeling more like yourself again. It’s totally non-surgical, FDA-cleared, and there’s usually no downtime whatsoever — unless you count reading a book or checking email during your appointment as downtime. How cool is that? And what’s more is there are no pills or supplements and as long as you maintain your weight with normal diet and exercise, your long-term results should remain stable.
Why Choose CoolSculpting for Fat Reduction?
As a completely non-invasive procedure, CoolSculpting offers patients many benefits over other fat reduction procedures. Some of these benefits include:
- Little-to-no downtime; Most patients are able to return to their normal activities the same day
- No need for anesthesia
- No incisions
- During the CoolSculpting procedure, most patients remain completely comfortable and can read, listen to music and simply relax. Most patients are able to return to work and resume other regular activities the very same day.

What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that gently and effectively removes fat from targeted areas of the body that have not responded to traditional diet and exercise. Check out this short informational video about CoolSculpting:
What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?
Patients can benefit from CoolSculpting with noticeable, yet natural-looking, results in their problem areas, providing an overall smoother body contour. CoolSculpting is most effective in removing fat from the abdomen, love handles (flanks) and back. Yet, with the release of the CoolSmooth applicator in May 2014, Frederick Dermatology Associates can now shrink and contour those stubborn areas like outer and inner thighs, as well as arms.
How does CoolSculpting work?
The results of the CoolSculpting procedure are achieved using the advanced Cryolipolysis™ technology, which cools the targeted tissue to break down the fat cells for easy removal, without any harm to the surrounding tissue. The technique was discovered at Harvard University and is proven scientifically to be safe and effective. Fat cells have been proven to be more vulnerable to cold than the surrounding tissue. This stimulates a natural fat removal process that continues for several months after the procedure.
Does CoolSculpting hurt?
In general, there is minimal discomfort with CoolSculpting. Rarely, discomfort can start 1-2 days after the procedure. Yet, it is extremely rare to require medication to dull the pain. It is the experience of Frederick Dermatology Associates, that about 5% of patients may require a local anesthetic patch after their procedure to take away discomfort. However, overall during and after the procedure, most patients continue their regular schedule and experience no downtime. In fact, since Frederick Dermatology Associates’s CoolSculpting suite has a big screen television, many patients catch up on the latest movies and shows while the procedure is occurring.
How long does a CoolSculpting treatment take?
Depending on the area treated, each individual treatment may range from 35 minutes to an hour. The entire session can range from one treatment to many, so the length of the treatment sessions varies.
How long is CoolSculpting effective?
CoolSculpting is long-lasting and effective. As long as one does not override the system and gain multiple pounds, one’s results should last for many years. The fat cells breakdown and are permanently eliminated, and since you are only born with a finite number of fat cells, you will always have less fat cells in the treated areas. Moreover, with new treat to transformation protocols with CoolSculpting, one can expect similar to liposuction results. With over 10,000 treatments, Frederick Dermatology Associates was the first to have CoolSculpting in western Maryland and remain the experts in the area. If these are the results you are looking for, Frederick Dermatology Associates has the skill and knowledge to get you there.
Is there any recovery involved with CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is very well tolerated during and after the procedure. The procedure may be slightly uncomfortable during the first few minutes of treatment, but the discomfort is from the cold and gradually turns into a barely noticeable numbness. In fact, many of our patients to return to work or go to the gym immediately after their appointment.
Why choose Frederick Dermatology for your CoolSculpting?
Frederick Dermatology was one of the first practices in Maryland to treat with CoolSculpting. And we are one of the most experienced centers for body contouring with CoolSculpting. We are approaching 20,000 treatments. We have consistently been on the forefront of treating new areas of the body as these are developed and approved by the Food and Drug Administration. In addition, our staff is continually trained to be up-to-date with the evolving techniques of non-surgical fat reduction.
Why choose CoolSculpting over other approaches to fat reduction?
There are a number of approved devices for non-invasive fat reduction. Some employ energy to heat the fat. CoolSculpting, as the name implies, uses cooling. Frederick Dermatology has both kinds of devices. Occasionally one of the other devices is the first choice. But CoolSculpting remains the gold standard for fat reduction and body contouring. Therefore the majority of patients who are suitable candidates are treated initially with CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting continues to grow in popularity and gaines new applicators for new areas because it actually works!
Does CoolSculpting cause skin tightening or laxity?
There are reported cases of skin tightening occurring with CoolSculpting, but the majority of patients do not see tightening with the procedure. CoolSculpting is not approved in the United States as a tightening device. We have seen no cases where CoolSculpting has caused laxity of the skin. During the consultation, our experienced staff will assess the quality of your skin and address this concern if it bothers you. Frederick Dermatology does have non-invasive tightening procedures which may help.
How much does CoolSculpting cost?
The price depends on the areas that need treatment and the amount of fat in those areas. While the price may be as little as $700, a more typical range is $2-3,000.
