Skin resurfacing and rejuvenation are essential parts to anti-aging and anti-wrinkling skin care regimens.  The benefits of performing procedures that enhance cell turnover is multiple.  Conditions that can be expected to improve with skin resurfacing include:

Improve Static Wrinkles

These wrinkles are visible all of the time.  They do not change in appearance like the dynamic wrinkles.  Everyone develops them and skin resurfacing treatments can very effectively soften them.  At Frederick Dermatology Associates, we are experts at skin resurfacing.  As board-certified dermatologists, you can feel confident your in expert hands.

Improve Dynamic Wrinkles

Skin resurfacing can improve these lines and folds that are worsened by movement.  Yet, the best treatment regimen includes a combination of skin resurfacing and BotoxDysport, or Xeomin to most effectively soften these wrinkles.  The aging process does not occur because of one sole factor.  As such, the best anti-aging regimen for your skin includes a holistic approach to look at all the factors that are contributing to its aging.

Improve Age Spots and Pigmentation

Skin resurfacing and skin rejuvenation can effectively eliminate unwanted discolorations of the skin through exfoliation of the top layers of pigment and some destruction of the melanophages holding on to deeper pigment in the second layer of skin-the dermis.

Improve the Appearance of Scars

Whether the scar has formed from surgery, trauma, or acne, skin resurfacing can help tremendously soften these skin irregularities.  By reorganizing the collagen and elastin in the second layer of skin where the scar resides, within 3-6 treatments (depending on modality chosen), one can soften a scar by 30-90% percent.

The more the dermatology field learns about scars, the more effective regimens become.  We are learning that most scars respond to lasers at low energy levels and low surface areas.  This means little down-time, yet great improvement after a series of treatments.  We also know now that the small micro-channels created by resurfacing may be able to assist in delivery of medications and cosmeceuticals to the skin to improve desired results.  The most recent evidence shows this is especially true with fractionated ablative technology like the Total Fx.

Improve Skin Tone and Elasticity

Skin resurfacing with lasers and Dermapen can significantly improve the turgor and suppleness to the skin.
