What is UltraClear Laser Skin Rejuvenation?
UltraClear is a non-invasive laser treatment that improves skin texture, reduces wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, and promotes collagen production. UltraClear is the world’s first 2910 nm cold ablative fractional technology. It is one of the safest lasers for all skin types, has less discomfort than traditional lasers, and offers quicker treatment times. Because UltraClear can create such small spot sizes and increases the number of microchannels per area, there is less discomfort and more rapid healing than most laser treatments. It maximizes the ablation of skin and skin regeneration without bulk heating, making it safe for all skin types.
How does UltraClear Laser work?
UltraClear uses fractional laser technology to target deep layers of the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and encouraging collagen growth, resulting in smoother, more youthful skin.
There are six applications of UltraClear. Frederick Dermatology Associates can target the most superficial part of the skin and treat pigmentation, sun damage, and complexion to the deepest sets of tissue coring for deep wrinkles and folds.
Tissue Coring with UltraClear is unique. It is a breakthrough treatment for laser rejuvenation without scalpels and sutures. It is suitable for face and body. With this laser you can stay below the threshold of scar formation at 400-500 microns diameter to create the best collagen remodeling and production. There is a mechanical version of this, but the UltraClear can provide this superior collagen production with less downtime and more safety.
Generally, the areas addressed with tissue coring are the submentum (under chin/upper neck) and jowls. Many times, if these settings are used, you will have more downtime. You can have small bumps at sites of tissue vaporization for 1-3 months. These generally go away slowly but are part of the recovery process of tissue coring.
What can I expect during the treatment?
The procedure is relatively quick, usually lasting 20–30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Patients often feel a mild warming sensation, but it is generally painless.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients see significant improvements after 2–3 sessions. However, the number of treatments may vary depending on your skin condition and desired results. Your provider at Frederick Dermatology Associates will customize a treatment plan for you.
Is there any downtime?
There is minimal to no downtime with UltraClear Laser. You might experience some redness and mild swelling immediately after treatment akin to sunburn from 20 minutes to 48 hours after treatment. Skin redness will typically subside within 2-3 days, and you can expect some skin sloughing and exfoliation around day 3-7. Procedures on other areas of the body may take 1-4 weeks to reach the sloughing phase. You should not use makeup for at least 1-2 days after the procedure to minimize the risk of infection. With deeper face and neck treatments, healing can take 1-2 weeks.
When will I see results?
Results can be seen within a few days, with continued improvement over the next few months as your skin produces more collagen. For optimal results, multiple sessions may be recommended.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t receive an UltraClear treatment?
Contraindications to UltraClear include pregnancy or breastfeeding, medical implants in treatment area, an open herpes simplex in area, skin diseases exacerbated by light (like systemic lupus erythematosus), open wounds in treated area, oral medications that worsen light sensitivity, and/or active skin cancer in treated area.
Relative contraindications that can affect your treatment and should be evaluated by one of our providers on a case-by-case basis include a history of keloid scarring (which may require a test spot prior to treatment), history of immunosuppression, tattoos in treated area, or excessively tanned skin.
Can UltraClear Laser treat acne scars and pigmentation?
Absolutely! UltraClear Laser is highly effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars, pigmentation, and sun damage, helping to create a more even skin tone and texture.
How should I prepare for the procedure?
Avoid direct sun exposure and discontinue the use of any retinoids or exfoliating treatments two weeks before your session. Your provider will give you specific pre-treatment instructions. Hydrate with 64 ounces each day before surgery (starting 3 days before). Start Valtrex the day before laser treatment if you have a history of cold sores. On the day of the procedure, come into the office with clean skin free of any makeup. Many times, we will give you a numbing prescription to apply one hour prior to make the procedure more comfortable. Be sure to have white vinegar at home to vinegar soaks after treatment (1 tsp vinegar to 16 oz bottled water). This will be reviewed with you on the day of your treatment, and you will be given a written copy of post-procedure instructions to take home.
How long do the results last?
Results can last for months to years, depending on your skincare routine and lifestyle factors. Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months are recommended to keep your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated.
