DERMAPEN (MICRONEEDLING)

Dermapen enhances rejuvenation results and is far safer for the client because there is much less epidermal damage. The automatic vibrating function of the Dermapen increases the effectiveness of treatment by increasing absorption of products, while reducing pain and discomfort. Dermapen is just as effective as treatments such as Fraxel, IPL, Laser Resurfacing, and Chemical Peels. The most amazing benefit is that Dermapen’s pricing is a fraction of the leading alternatives.

Benefits of Dermapen

Dermapen is safer and more effective in piercing the skin than traditional skin micro needling rollers due to its unique vertical micro needling technology. It has a superior effect on collagen and elastin rejuvenation. Active ingredients are directly supplied to the deeper layers of the skin. Dermapen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depths allow the needles to pierce the skin’s layers at 90 degrees and increases the effectiveness of treatments by increasing the absorption of products, generating less pain and downtime for the patient. Dermapen can effectively treat hard-to-reach places (e.g. around the eyes, nose, and lips). Because of the vertical delivery, the needles can easily penetrate scar tissue. Dermapen promotes scar-less healing and natural collagen reproduction, similar to fractional laser treatments, IPL, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels, but without the side effects and downtime.

Can I Prevent Wrinkles?

Because of the degradation of the skin over time, the required regimen for treatment is a preventative protocol. The Dermapen® promotes a process of new skin growth through the science of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). The most effective way to stimulate or “Induce” new skin is by micro-needling with the Dermapen’s® vertical stamping method. This new stimulation can be done quickly and easily while keeping the epidermis intact and down-time to a minimum.

Boost your best result of collagen stimulation with TNS recovery growth factors added to the treatments!

Dermapen® advantages

  • No cross-contamination – disposable needles
  • Shorter treatment times
  • Adjustable needle depth
  • Less pain
  • Easy to use
  • No side effects

How many Dermapen treatments are needed?

Your medical professional can consult you on a prescribed treatment. Skin conditions are different as well as the age of each patient. 2-3 aggressive Dermapen treatments will provide a noticeable difference, however 5-6 Dermapen treatments will show the most dramatic results. It is important to work with your practitioner on what treatment specifics to observe. Once the skin condition has the desired effects, it is important to maintain collagen stimulation by returning to your practitioner or performing a new Dermapen treatment every 12-24 weeks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s is all the hype around microneedling?

The reason for the popularity has to do with many people’s interest in reducing acne scars, stretch marks, scars, and wrinkles. Yet, this is nothing new. What is new is the ability for microneedling to achieve great results with your skin with less cost and less downtime than traditional lasers.

Who is a candidate for microneedling?

Anyone who is interested in cleaning up their skin from blemishes, acne, stretch marks, wrinkles, and surgical scars. The list goes on and on… It is also a great in an anti-aging regimen. It helps to prevent wrinkles as well as treating them!

What are the most popular types of treatment?

Other than the items listed above, micro needling is most often used for treating the following:

Deep wrinkles
Fine lines
Sun damage
Rough skin
Pore size
Sagging skin

What are the side effects?

The great thing about micro needling is it’s non-invasive. Not only that, but microneedling has less side effects than other non-invasive treatments. Typically, a patient will experience red skin after microneedling. This will last for an average of 2-3 days. The most severe side effect could be mild swelling, but this is uncommon and isn’t severe. If swelling does occur, it won’t last long. One also usually has mild flaking and peeling on day 2 to day 6. You may also notice a slight bruising or several tiny blood spots, but they will disappear in 24 to 48 hours. Your skin will become smoother and radiant in a week.

How does microneedling work?

The treatment includes cleaning and numbing the skin. At Frederick Dermatology Associates, we give you a prescription to fill at your local pharmacy. This topical numbing is then applied to your face and neck 60 minutes before your appointment time. A derma stamp pen uses fine microneedles to make tiny micro-punctures in the skin, which then in turn, stimulates fresh new collagen and elastin to occupy the skin. The effect is smoother skin with less wrinkling, smaller pores, and less acne scars.

Can microneedling be used safely for skin of color?

Yes, microneedling is safe for all skin types. The risk of hyper or hypopigmentation is very rare in microneedling.

How often should I repeat microneedling?

Microneedling is done every 4-6 weeks. Initially, most patients start with 4-6 treatments to achieve the greatest clinical effectiveness. In an anti-aging regimen, most of our patients repeat microneedling every 3-4 months.

What things should I avoid before or after my microneedling treatments?

Patients should stop any regenerative skin care products with retinols or alpha-hydroxyacids 2-3 days before the treatment. These should also be avoided for 5 days after the treatment. While the risk of pigmentation is lower with microneedling than laser treatments. Sun exposure and tanning should still be avoided during treatments to maximize the effectiveness of the treatments and reduce the risk of side effects. On the day of the procedure, we ask our patients to avoid make up and skin care products. Keep the treated area clean and dry.

Are microneedling resurfacing treatments painful?

Everyone has varying pain thresholds. Most people rate it an average of 3/10 on a pain scale with numbing. The more aggressive the treatment, the more pain one can experience. Our protocol is to have our patients apply 23%Lidocaine/7%Tetracaine topical numbing 60 minutes before their procedure. This protocol allows a comfortable treatment.

When do I start to see the benefits of microneedling?

Usually within 1 week, you skin will look glowing and refreshed. After 3 treatments, the collagen stimulation takes a major effect, and patients recognize the impact that microneedling can have on their skin’s appearance.

Who can’t have microneedling treatments?

There are no absolute contraindications, but you should tell your doctor if you have been on Accutane in the last 6 months, have a history of keloids or abnormal scarring, or have a history of infections like herpes/fever blisters, etc.

Are infections possible with microneedling?

The micropunctures close up quickly. Infections are very rare. Yet, this is why the skin must stay and clean and dry the day the procedure to minimize any risk.
