How does it work?
DermaV laser platform has two wavelengths that may be used to treat its targets (532 nm and 1064 nm). Those wavelengths are attracted to oxyhemoglobin in vessels and melanin. Both of these are important targets when one is trying to eliminate vessels and brown spots. The 1064 nm longer wavelength can be safer to use in darker skin types and deeper, purple vessels.
How does the treatment feel?
You may experience mild discomfort throughout the treatment, which will vary depending on the condition of your skin and the area being treated. Your practitioner will work with you to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. In general, topical numbing is not required. Patients compare it to a hot rubber band snap. Yet, the cool cryogen spray thereafter soothes the skin and protects from adverse effects.
How long does treatment take?
Depending on the area to be treated, your session will last 15-30 minutes.
What will happen after the treatment?
You may experience mild redness, puffiness or bruising following the treatment, but you should be able to return to normal activities right away. You can apply light makeup if desired, but don’t forget your sunscreen! If bruising occurs, which is more common when you are treating vascularity, it will take around 5-7 days to heal. Healing can take a bit longer for leg vessels. Support stockings may be recommended if you are treating leg veins. Please avoid the sun after your treatments.
How long before I see results?
Most lesions may look more apparent before fading of them occurs. In most patients, a series of 3-4 treatments will be recommended 4 wks apart to optimize results. Maintenance with 1 treatment can range for 6-12 months (depending on your skin care and lifestyle).
What is the cost of a DermaV treatment?
Price ranges from 400-650 dollars per treatment depending on the area being treated.
What do I need to do to prepare for my DermaV treatment?
The number one thing to do is AVOID THE SUN with laser treatments. You do not want a tan or sunburn when you do laser treatments. This increases your risk of blistering, crusting, and scabbing. Try to avoid your retinol for 2-3 days. Please come in with clean skin without makeup. Please let us know if you have any permanent makeup before we start treatment. If you have a history of cold sores, we will send a prescription of Valtrex to take for a few days after your treatment (if area around lips were treated) to avoid cold sore outbreaks. You will not need numbing for this treatment.
Can anyone be treated on the DermaV?
Most patients can be treated with this laser platform. If you tan well or are darker in skin complexion, we will likely use the 1064 nm wavelength to keep your skin safe from unwanted side effects. 532 nm wavelengths are better for lighter skin types. The good news is the platform has both wavelengths to individualize your treatment. Please tell us if you have any light sensitizing disorders, likely systemic lupus or if you are immunocompromised or have a history of keloids.
