XEOMIN

How does Frederick Dermatology achieve natural results with Xeomin?

Experience and listening. The staff at Frederick Dermatology Associates gets feedback from their patients and customizes treatments to the patients’ goals. From there we tailor the dose and the injection points to these goals. For example, many patients worry about their brows dropping and looking “frozen”. By not over treating the forehead muscle and correct placement of brow injections, patients can achieve a non-surgical brow lift with no cuts or downtime! One’s age, gender, and ethnicity needs to be considered when designing a treatment plan for natural results as well. Our experts take all of this into consideration.

Xeomin, incobotulinumtoxin A, is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles that cause active wrinkles. It has been FDA approved since July 2010. There is no good evidence in the literature of superiority of Botox to Xeomin. It can provide the same natural look as its competitors if injected by a knowledgeable and skilled cosmetic dermatologist.

Frederick Dermatology Associates is the most trusted provider of Xeomin in Maryland. As board certified dermatologists, you can be sure your treatment will be safe and deliver natural results. Our highly skilled providers can improve deep lines from squinting and frowning without surgery, without scars, and without downtime.

At Frederick Dermatology Associates expect our skilled and experienced providers to treat and proactively prevent signs of aging. Xeomin will gradually smooth lines and prevent new creases from forming. With Xeomin, here is what you can see expect to see improve:

  • Vertical lines between brows
  • Non-surgical brow lift
  • Lines at bridge of nose called bunny lines
  • Squint lines, otherwise known as crow’s feet, at the corners of eyes
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Neck wrinkles and undefined jawline
  • Wrinkles around the mouth
  • Turning down of the corners of the mouth
  • Gummy smile
  • Pebbled chin, sometimes referred as peau d’orange (orange skin)
  • Bell’s Palsy, by treating the side without paralysis to create better symmetry
  • Blepharospasm

With real, noticeable results, no surgery and no recovery time, there are many reasons why Xeomin and other muscle relaxers have been chosen by millions of patients and their doctors.

About Xeomin

Xeomin is a highly purified protein used to temporarily relax muscles. It is used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).

Wrinkles happen for a variety of reasons, but the underlying cause is typically contractions in the muscles under the skin. Wrinkles, crow’s feet, and laugh lines can all be effectively treated for up to four months by relaxing these muscles.

Remember long and lean muscles are more youthful, and that is what you are creating with the injection of Xeomin. The muscle relaxes and is not overly active, which creates a lovely lifted and refreshed look (especially in the upper half of the face).

Some patients are afraid of potential pain from the injections. When you come to us, we will provide you with an anesthetic cream or ice pack to numb the area we will be working on, if you wish.

After we administer the injections, you will not notice an immediate benefit. The proteins go to work on the underlying muscle instantly, but maximum results take a week or so to reach their maximum. Results last up to four months.

If you are pleased with your previous Xeomin, you may want to consider a regular treatment plan to help maintain them. Don’t forget that you can receive injections every 3 to 4 months as long as you don’t have any serious allergic reactions or other significant side effects.

At Frederick Dermatology Associates a personalized plan will leave you looking natural. We also utilize other noninvasive procedures to optimize these natural looking results, like dermal fillers, Ultherapy, and Exilis. Resurfacing with Resurfx or microneedling can also provide a great synergistic effect to your Xeomin. The best part of being a patient of Frederick Dermatology Associates is that you can trust that we will deliver natural results safely.

If you have questions about these treatment options, call us today to schedule a consultation. Let us show you the benefits of Xeomin! Patients are looking and feeling younger with the help of Frederick Dermatology Associates and you can, too.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between Xeomin and Botox?

Xeomin is a neurotoxin like Botox and relaxes muscles and smoothes wrinkles. They share the same active ingredient. When purified, Xeomin has less accompanying additives or proteins. It does not need to be refrigerated like Botox. At this point, there seems to be no clinical difference in the literature because of this removal of the surrounding proteins. Theoretically, there is less antibody formation to Xeomin. Yet, the validity of this claim has yet to be proven.

It works in a similar manner to Botox, with the same duration to onset, same dosing, and same lasting effect. Since the two are competitors, it is helping to drive down the cost of Botox. It has been used safely for several years in Europe before FDA approval in the United States.

What is Xeomin?

When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these contractions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These lines can make you look older, sad, angry or tired. Xeomin Cosmetic treatments can not only prevent you from deepening these lines during natural facial movements, they can also erase these marks of aging, leaving you looking younger and more refreshed.

What can Xeomin Treatments do for me?

Through a series of tiny injections, Xeomin gives you a rejuvenated look by smoothing crow’s feet beneath the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines across the forehead, worry lines around the mouth, and lines on the neck. In addition to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, Xeomin may be useful for treating migraine headaches, excessive sweating, chronic back and jaw pain, and muscle spasms. Furthermore, one can receive Xeomin to achieve an excellent brow lift without surgical intervention.

How does Xeomin work?

The medication relaxes the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. When injected in small doses in specific areas, Xeomin injections block nerve muscles responsible for the repetitive actions that cause fine lines and wrinkles. In this way, Xeomin smooths the lines in the skin that make you look tired or angry.

What can I Expect at the time of the Procedure?

Using a very fine needle, a qualified physician will inject Xeomin Cosmetic into designated muscles in your face that are causing lines and wrinkles. At Frederick Dermatology Associates, all providers have extensive training in Xeomin injections. Moreover, all providers take additional classes to keep updated on new advanced techniques.

Does Xeomin hurt?

You may experience brief, mild discomfort during the injection, but you can be assured that the treatment is very safe and effective. Some patients say it feels like acupuncture, some say the [preparation] ice hurts more than the needles. Xeomin in the crow’s feet (eye wrinkles) hardly hurts at all. Xeomin in the frown lines is a little bit more painful. Topical anesthetic can be used to numb the skin beforehand, but most people don’t bother with it.

How long will it take to see my Xeomin Results and how long will they last?

Taking only a few minutes, Xeomin treatment requires no anesthetic and recovery is immediate, allowing you to return to work and resume your normal daily activities that same day. You will see your wrinkles begin to fade within 24 hours, with continued improvement over the next 4 weeks. The effects of Xeomin Cosmetic typically last up to four months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year. After several Xeomin treatments, the results may be prolonged.

What should I do after my Xeomin injections?

Frederick Dermatology Associates has several recommendations to ensure safe, optimized results. Some of these include, moving or exercising the muscles injected several times per hour for 4 hours after the procedure. This allows the Xeomin to gain is best uptake into the muscles intended for relaxing. This may allow the onset of Xeomin to occur more quickly and for the duration to last longer. You also want to avoid lying down or any excessive bending over. This theoretically avoids the unwanted side effect of ptosis (dropping) of eyebrow or eyelid.

What are the Side Effects of Xeomin?

Immediately following the Xeomin treatment, some patients may experience mild bruising, which will go away shortly. Side effects of Xeomin Cosmetic are rare and are usually mild and temporary. The most common side effects caused by Xeomin are headaches and temporary redness or bruising of the skin at the site of injection. In rare cases, slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression may occur. Any risk of complications can be reduced by choosing a qualified and experienced physician.

Is Xeomin Cosmetic safe?

Xeomin Cosmetic was FDA-approved in 2010 and has been used in millions of U.S. patients. The protein is purified and this process occurs under sterile conditions and is reconstituted from a freeze-dried powder prior to injection.

What is the Difference Between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin?

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are very identical in their nature, but have slight differences in the chemical form due to purification differences. Dysport offers enhanced spreading and may be the ideal choice for treatment of multiple areas of the face Botox is an excellent choice for deep wrinkline All three are FDA approved and safe choices for wrinkle reduction and more!
